Interview with Diane Chew on Using Healer Products for her Husband Ben’s Dementia Challenges.

1/17/2025

Dr. Dustin Sulak: Hello everyone. Today, I have the opportunity to interview Diane Chew about her experience using Healer products with her husband, Ben. Thank you, Diane, for taking the time to join us today. Could you start by introducing yourself and sharing a little bit about your current situation with Ben?

Diane Chew: Sure, thank you. My name is Diane Chew, and I have been the primary caregiver for my husband, Ben, since 2021 when his symptoms of Lewy body dementia intensified. Some people may know me as @DementiaCoachDiane on social media, particularly Instagram, where I share our journey. Over time, an amazing community has come together to support us and offer suggestions for handling this roller coaster ride.

Dr. Sulak: Thank you for sharing that. Can you tell me why you chose Healer Hemp products to help with the dementia-related challenges Ben was facing?

Diane Chew: Initially, I was using another hemp-based product because I believed in their potential benefits. However, I wasn’t aware of Healer products until I had a consultation with the Healer nurses, who introduced me to the brand. They explained the potential for better results, which encouraged me to make the switch.

Dr. Sulak: Let’s talk about the challenges you were facing at their worst. What was life like for you and Ben before using Healer products?

Diane Chew: Ben was not sleeping at all. He had a reaction to a pharmaceutical medication that landed him in the hospital. After he was discharged, sleep remained a major issue. On top of that, he was extremely agitated all day long. He was restless, pacing constantly, and I wasn’t sure if I could continue caring for him at home. It felt like a nightmare for both of us.

Dr. Sulak: That sounds incredibly difficult. Was there a moment when you felt you were close to the breaking point?

Diane Chew: Absolutely. When your loved one isn’t sleeping, that means you’re not sleeping either. After a couple of nights without sleep, I wasn’t functioning well, and I knew I couldn’t sustain that. I even toured some care facilities, but the thought of placing Ben in one was heartbreaking. The sleep deprivation, combined with his constant movement and increased fall risk, made everything feel impossible. Some facilities wouldn’t even accept him due to his fall risk, and those that would often relied heavily on pharmaceuticals. I felt completely stuck.

Dr. Sulak: That must have been so overwhelming. It’s great that you found another option. Can you share some of the improvements you’ve seen since using Healer products?

Diane Chew: The changes have been incredible. Ben’s anxiety and agitation have significantly decreased. Before, he couldn’t even sit down to eat—I’d have to hand him a sandwich while he was pacing. Now, he sits calmly and enjoys meals. Just this morning, he sat down and ate his oatmeal peacefully. The improvement in his sleep has been miraculous. He now falls asleep around 8 PM and sleeps soundly. It’s truly life-changing.

Dr. Sulak: That’s amazing to hear. How long did it take before you started seeing these improvements?

Diane Chew: Some changes, like reduced agitation, happened within the first week. The sleep improvements took a little longer to become consistent. At first, there were good nights followed by restless ones, but over time, his sleep stabilized. Now, he consistently gets 7-10 hours of sleep, which is incredible.

Dr. Sulak: You shared a powerful video of Ben playing the piano again. Can you talk about that moment?

Diane Chew: Ben is a musician—an amazing guitarist and pianist. For a long time, he showed no interest in music, which was heartbreaking. But after starting Healer products, he walked over to the piano one day, sat down, and started playing. I was stunned and overjoyed. I’ve also noticed an increase in his focus—he picks up books and magazines again, flipping through pages and even reading aloud. These small moments bring me so much joy.

Dr. Sulak: That’s such a powerful example of what some researchers call the ‘restored self’—when people start feeling like themselves again, even if symptoms aren’t completely gone. Have you seen continued improvement over time?

Diane Chew: Absolutely. His sleep is stable, and cognitively, I see glimmers of his old self. We take car rides, and he’ll reach over, squeeze my leg, and say, “You’re doing a great job.” When we listen to his music, he’ll analyze it and make comments like, “That was a good riff.” These are things he used to do all the time, and seeing them return is incredible.

Dr. Sulak: That’s wonderful. You’ve also been passionate about helping other caregivers. How has Ben’s improvement impacted your own well-being?

Diane Chew: I’m sleeping better, which makes a huge difference. When Ben is more peaceful, my nervous system calms down too. I feel less reactive and more hopeful. Even on tough days, I no longer panic, thinking we’re on a downward spiral. Instead, I trust that we’re on a path to better days. And because I’m in a better mental space, I can engage with Ben in a more joyful, present way.

Dr. Sulak: That’s so important. Have you tried using any Healer products for your own well-being?

Diane Chew: Yes, I was initially hesitant because I need to stay sharp at all times. But I started using the Rest gummies in a very specific dosage that works for me. They help me sleep better, which means I can be a more present and effective caregiver.

Dr. Sulak: So, about the Healer Respite Gummies, what do you like most about them?

Diane Chew: The best thing for me is that it’s an all-natural product. I mean, it’s a plant. And I used to work for a big pharmaceutical company, so of course, there’s a place for pharmaceuticals. But what I would urge people to do—if they’re at the beginning of this journey with dementia or with anything—is to try the hemp-based products first. You can always add a pharmaceutical later, but if you start with pharmaceuticals, trying to go in the other direction is sometimes very, very difficult. So, you’ve got nothing to lose. Try the plant-based products first.

The fact that they’re all-natural is a big plus. And then there’s the nurse support, which has been incredible. They’ve held my hand every step of the way—for both Ben and for myself. It’s so generous of Healer to provide that support. Before, I was just buying stuff off the internet. I had Ben’s medical card, I had my caregiver card, and I wasn’t even sure if I needed it or not. I was going off what these companies were promoting, and then I found out that some of that information was actually erroneous. So, the nurse support has been just incredible.

And then there’s the packaging. I like to think I’m really good at keeping track of things—I have medication charts and everything. But sometimes, I’m just so tired, and I’m like, Did I give him that gummy? Did I not give him that gummy? The packaging you provide makes it so much easier to track. Especially for someone just starting this journey and not familiar with using these products yet, it helps them know exactly where they are. The way you’ve laid it out for nighttime and daytime is so helpful for busy caregivers.

So, thank you. That was great.

Dr. Sulak: Okay, let’s wrap up with this, Diane. For people who are on the fence or maybe afraid to start their loved ones on the Healer Respite Gummies, any words of wisdom for them?

Diane Chew: Book a nurse consult. You can tell them what symptoms you’re most trying to address and what other medications your loved one is on, and they’ll guide you on exactly how to get started—what to use, what to look for, and how to make dosage adjustments. They’ll hold your hand the whole way. And they even say, book a follow-up consult. Let them know how you’re doing. You don’t have to do this alone.

Plus, there’s really nothing to be afraid of. The worst that’s going to happen is your loved one will probably fall asleep—which, honestly, might be a good thing. It’s not going to hurt them. You don’t have the same concerns as you do with pharmaceuticals, which can be tricky when it comes to getting the right dose. And you’ll see the results quickly—one way or another. If it’s not the right dose, you’ll notice it and can adjust. But it’s nothing that’s going to harm them.

So, I would say—you have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

Dr. Sulak: Wow. Thank you so much, Diane. You’re a wonderful resource for this community. Where can our followers find more information and content from you?

Diane Chew: Oh, thank you so much. You can find me at @DementiaCoachDiane on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook. It’s been a joy to interact with the community. As much as I wish nobody had to be on this journey, knowing that you’re not alone, that someone else is going through it—maybe a step ahead of you—has been so helpful for me. And I hope I can offer the same thing for others.

Dr. Sulak: Great. Well, thank you so much, and I wish a great 2025 for you and Ben. Hopefully, he’ll be feeling better and better.

Diane Chew: Thank you so much. It’s been a blessing to interact with your company. I really, really appreciate it.
